Amazon.com . Since last Friday, Amazon had limited the availability of Macmillan releases in a dispute over e-books, with Macmillan calling for a new pricing system that would end the $9.99 rate Amazon had been setting for best-sellers on its Kindle e-reader. Macmillan and other publishers believe $9.99 is too low and threatens the value of books overall.During the dispute, Amazon had stopped offering new copies and e-book editions of many Macmillan titles, allowing purchases only through third-party sellers. The Power7 systems will be tailored for specific projects, such as running electrical grids or financial analytics, Rodney Adkins, senior vice president for systems and technology, said last week in an interview. The systems, made of integrated servers, software and storage, will start selling this month. The release marks the first new systems since Adkins took over IBM’s hardware division in October, after predecessor Bob Moffat left the company amid the Galleon Group insider-trading scandal. IBM’s focus on project-specific systems, along with investments in research and development, will help it gain market share even as Oracle starts selling similar servers with its acquisition of Sun Microsystems Inc., he said. Search Engine Optimization Nasik Cape Canaveral, FL, United States (AHN) - The planned launch of the space shuttle was scrubbed after unfavorable weather conditions kept mission controllers guessing. STS-30 had been scheduled for liftoff at 4:39 a.m. but low-level clouds moved into the area in the hours before the launch. Flight conditions moved from "red" to "green" and finally back to "red" in the 90 minutes before scheduled departure. Winds were unpredictable, with speeds ranging from 5 mph to 12 mph. The shuttle will carry two large additions to the International Space Station that will bring the orbiting craft to near completion. By Joseph Galante Feb. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Amazon.com Inc., the largest Internet retailer, resumed selling Macmillan books on its Web site, ending a week-long fight with the publisher over the price of electronic books. Macmillan titles such as “Sarah’s Key,” by Tatiana de Rosnay, and “Plum Spooky,” by Janet Evanovich, were available in print version yesterday on Amazon.com’s Web site, though their digital editions weren’t. The return of Macmillan books, which had only been available on the site though third-party sellers since Jan. 29, is a step forward in the dispute over who should control the retail price of digital books -- merchants or publishers. Hachette Book Group and News Corp.’s HarperCollins have also said they will try to renegotiate terms with Seattle-based Amazon.com. |
