PARIS — Slender as a stick insect, a solar-powered experimental airplane with a huge wing span completed its first test flight of more than 24 hours on Thursday, powered overnight by energy collected from the sun during a day aloft over Switzerland.

The plane — Solar Impulse — landed where it had taken off 26 hours earlier at Payerne, 30 miles southwest of the capital, Berne, after gliding and looping over the Jura mountains, its 12,000 solar cells absorbing energy to keep its batteries charged when the sun went down.The pilot, André Borschberg, 57, a former Swiss fighter pilot, flew the plane from a cramped, single-seat cockpit, buffeted by low-level turbulence after take-off and chilled by low temperatures overnight, news reports said.

Apple has banned a Vietnamese developer from its app store after he was implicated in fraudulently pushing his titles to its best-seller list.
According to Apple, Thuat Nguyen hacked around 400 iTunes accounts, in order to use their credit card details to boost sales of his comic book apps.

Thuat Nguyen and his apps, which at one point over the weekend reportedly occupied 42 of the top 50 positions in the book sales chart, was "removed from the App Store for violating the developer Program License Agreement," Apple's Trudy Muller said by e-mail."The iTunes servers were not compromised," said Muller and Nguyen didn't receive any confidential information when his apps were downloaded.

Apple today pulled a large number of apps created by a Vietnamese iPhone developer after claims by competitors that he had pushed his software to the top of the bestseller list by purchasing them with stolen credit cards.

All the apps previously sold by Thuat Nguyen have been yanked from the iTunes App Store, according to Apple , which confirmed the developers' suspicions of fraud.See SaaS Development.
"The developer Thuat Nguyen and his apps were removed from the App Store for violating the developer Program License Agreement, including fraudulent purchase patterns," the company said in a statement it sent to Engadget early Monday. Apple did not reply to a request by Computerworld for further comment.
