The decision by HP's board to can CEO Mark Hurd for reasons that are not yet as clear to shareholders as they were to the board has now cost HP shareholders $14 billion--or about 15% of their pre-sacking wealth.

The HP board has defended its decision by saying that the expense-account violations the sexual harassment investigation turned up rendered Hurd incapable of leading the company.

Apple manager charged with taking kickbacks from suppliers - Ars Technica
A manager at Apple has been indicted on 23 counts of money laundering, wire fraud, and accepting kickbacks of over $1 million from would-be Apple suppliers in Asia. Paul Shin Devine, a global supply manager, and Singapore resident Andrew Ang are accused of soliciting payments from suppliers in exchange for confidential information that would enable the companies to win contracts from Apple.

According to the indictment, Devine had the companies bidding to supply iPod and iPad components wire numerous small payments to a number of US and offshore bank accounts held by him and at least one shell company. Devine is currently in custody in California, while an IRS agent declined to tell the The Mercury News if Ang was in custody.

Apple condemned Devine's alleged actions in a statement. "Apple is committed to the highest ethical standards in the way we do business," spokesperson Steve Dowling said. "We have zero tolerance for dishonest behavior inside or outside the company." Devine will appear in federal court on Monday afternoon.

Analysis: Oracle's suit against Google alleging Java patent infringements was predictable and promises more suits to come.

I'll say this for Oracle, at least it's consistently contradictory. The executives will extol the virtues of their partners, then turn right around and kick them in the--well, you know--and deploy an "innovative" copy of their partner's free software.
